About Mobility Mentor
Guidance. Advocacy. Independence—on Your Terms.
Mobility Mentor exists because navigating life with a disability—or supporting someone who does—should not feel overwhelming, isolating, or impossible.
I’m Marissa Shaw, a disability advocate, case manager, and lifelong wheelchair user with decades of lived experience navigating complex systems like housing, benefits, caregiving, and independent living. I created Mobility Mentor to bridge the gap between confusing systems and real-life solutions—with clarity, compassion, and confidence.
This isn’t theory.
This is lived knowledge, professional expertise, and hard-won insight—shared so you don’t have to figure everything out alone.

Why Mobility Mentor ExistsToo many people are left struggling to:
  • Understand housing, benefits, and care systems
  • Advocate for themselves or their loved ones
  • Find trustworthy guidance without judgment or gatekeeping
  • Maintain independence while managing disability or aging
Mobility Mentor was built to change that.
Here, you’ll find practical guidance, honest education, and empowering support—all centered on dignity, autonomy, and real-world accessibility.

Lived Experience Beyond the System
Independence isn’t just something I advocate for—it’s something I actively practice.
I am a long-distance adaptive tandem cyclist, competing in endurance races throughout Northern California. These races demand strategy, trust, communication, and resilience—the same qualities required to navigate life with a disability in an able-bodied world. Cycling has reinforced what I know to be true: independence doesn’t mean doing everything alone—it means having the right systems, partners, and support in place.

In addition to athletic advocacy, I have been the top fundraising advocate for adaptive sports nonprofits in Berkeley, California for the past five years, consistently leading campaigns that expand access, visibility, and opportunity for disabled athletes. This work reflects my deep belief that community access and movement are not luxuries—they are fundamental to well-being and autonomy.

Who I Serve
Mobility Mentor supports:
  • People with disabilities navigating independent living
  • Aging adults and families managing care transitions
  • Caregivers seeking clarity, tools, and balance
  • Individuals overwhelmed by housing, benefits, or support systems
Whether you’re newly navigating disability or have been in the system for years, you deserve support that meets you where you are.

What Makes Mobility Mentor Different
✔ Lived Experience + Professional Expertise
I’ve worked inside systems and lived under them. That perspective matters.
✔ Clear, Actionable Guidance
No jargon. No shame. Just understandable steps forward.
✔ Advocacy-Driven, Not One-Size-Fits-All
Your needs, goals, and values come first—always.
✔ Respect for Independence and Choice
Support should empower—not control.

My Background
I bring experience from:
  • Case management and emergency services
  • Disability policy and advocacy work
  • Care coordination and independent living support
  • Community education, coaching, and nonprofit fundraising
And most importantly—decades of navigating life with multiple disabilities, building independence, advocating for access, and helping others do the same with confidence and clarity.

My Mission
My mission is simple:
To help people with disabilities and their families navigate systems with confidence, build sustainable independence, and live fuller lives—on their own terms.
Mobility Mentor is not about fixing people.
It’s about removing barriers.

Let’s Move Forward Together
